Sometimes when I've been at a convention and have met/talked to an actor or celebrity, I look back later and wonder if said anything stupid, unclear, or j

ust plain odd. I'm sure many of us do.
Well, this morning I heard the news that Richard Kiel has passed and my mind immediately went back a month to when I meet him at StocktonCon 2014. I was going over it all again in my head, from star to finish.
I was walking along the upper concourse of the Stockton Arena, taking in the action and getting some cosplay pictures, when I saw Richard Kiel sitting at his booth. I did not even know he was going to be there! Excitedly I walk over extending my hand and saying”Oh wow!!! ...I have to shake your hand! You were a hero to me as a kid!” to which the guy behind me chimed in “Me too!”. Richard reached out and enveloped my hand in his massive mit, and shook it.
This is the part that sticks out to me because I'm glad I said what I did to him about being a hero to me as a kid. I'm glad I did not let that chance slip by. Richard Kiel was indeed a hero and role model to many kids who were on the outside of the norm, for whatever reason. This 7' 2” actor was an example that being different did not mean you could not go out and create your own path in life. In fact his example was an encouragement to do so. So, on this day, and the ones to follow, while we mourn his loss let's also celebrate his life and the positive effects he had on us.
So , where ever you are now Richard, myself any so many others wish you magnificent voyages. You will be deeply missed.
